Video Pitch Feedback

I presented my pitch the class and got feedback. Most of feedback was asking about the locations. "Do you the location, especially the field?" I have found a field I want to shoot my music video in which is a public field so we don't have to worry about permission.
I also got told that my idea of the music video is similar to the original music video. My music video will have a story line instead of Taylor Swift's which is just random home footage of her and her family and friends.
I got questioned about how I would film in a super market. I already have permission to film in a supermarket so that won't be a problem.

Mood Board

I have created a mood board to show how I would want to represent my music video. In my mood board, I have chosen an image of a woman in the streets. I would want my video to be located in the streets. I have gone for the rock star look which shows a bit more old fashioned type clothing. I have chosen to put a guitar in my mood board because in my music video, I imagine the lead singer with a guitar. I imagine people hanging around in the streets having a good time, that is why I have an image of girls on the streets. For make-up, I thought dark eyeshadow would work best because I am going for the "rock chick" look. Overall I am going for a street party, old fashioned rock star outcome.

Demi likes listening to different genres of music such as; pop, rock, classical, r&b, country and hip hop however her favourite genre is pop.

Some of Demi's favourite music artist include; Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Lana Del Rey, Kelly Clarkson and Rihanna. Demi always listens to music when she gets ready to go out because it puts her in a good mood.
In her spare time, Demi likes to write her own music as she aspires to be a songwriter in the future. She enjoys watching TV shows such as; 90210 and Gossip Girl.

If Demi could go anywhere in the world, she would go to America because there are a lot of good opportunities there and Demi thinks it would be a great career move if she wants to be a songwriter.

Music Video

I have chosen Katy Perry's music video for Firework as an influential video. The video includes different peoples situations. The video has a message that's trying to tell viewers, no matter how difficult life can get, you always have to stay positive because you can overcome it. Overall the video is a positive video and could inspire people to be comfortable in their own skin and should not worry about the negative comments.

Q7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

From looking back at my preliminary task, I feel like I've learned a lot looking at how my finial product came out. I feel my camera skills have improved, even how I hold the camera is much more improved. I feel like I can take better shots seeing as my close-up, over the shoulder and match on action shots have been come out a lot better. I learned how to use a tripod correctly. Also my editing skills have gone better looking at my preliminary task, I didn't use effects because I didn't know how to however, I'm much more confident.

Q6. What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

For making my horror film, I used a number of technologies to help me with my finial out come. I first started by creating a survey where I wanted to find out what type of horror films do the audience watch/like. From the results of the survey, I produced a presentation on Prezi brainstorming my ideas for my horror film opening sequence. I added YouTube videos of some existing horror film openings to add to my ideas. I also created a Production Company logo on Photoshop 'Woodland Studios'. The name was inspired from the idea of filming our opening horror sequence in a forest.

We used a video recorder to film our opening horror sequence. Some of the footage in our film is handheld because we wanted to get into the point of view of the character. The scene with the flashback is when we used a tripod to shoot. We wanted to make the flashback clear to the audience. We also used the tripod to film the panning shot because we wanted the shot to run smoothly and to make sure we captured the park entirely. What I learnt from using a camera is that I have to remember, when shooting, to make sure I get everything in the shot as some things I wanted were left out.

I used Premiere Pro to edit the opening sequence of my horror film. I imported all my footage onto there and had to decide which footage I wanted to keep and which I had to cut. Once I did that, I put all my footage together so each cut flowed well with one another. I used effects like red tint and dip to black to show the flashback. We went on YouTube to look at opening horror sequences and listened to the type of music they had used. I then went on a website called 'FreeSound' to find music which would fit our opening sequence. We found a classical type music which we thought would fit our opening sequence quite well. Its also good because it builds up the tension.

Q4. Who Would Be The Audience For Your Media Product?

This is Tidge. Tidge is 16 years old and lives in Bracknell with her mother, brother cat and dog.

Her favourite films include; Beetle Juice, Jumanji, Girl Interrupted and Alice In Wonderland her favourite character being the Mad Hatter. She also likes to watch horror films, her favourites are; Saw, Mirrors, The Blair Witch Project and Bloody Mary. I think Tidge would like to watch my film because when filming, I tried to create the same effects of The Blair Witch Project.

She loves to watch TV programs like; Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, 90210, Pretty Little Liars and Glee. My film is based on teenagers so looking at the televsion programes Tidge likes, which are based on teenagers, it looks like she'll like to watch my film.

The breakfast cereal she would choose to eat would be Weetabix.

On the weekends she likes to go out with her friends, read and do absolutely nothing.

Her favourite drink is Vitamin Water and likes to drink nothing but that!

Tidge's ideal partner would be Shia Labeouf. She's obsessed with him.
America would be Tidge's ideal place to go on holiday. She would go to L.A because its the best place she feels to peruse her dreams of becoming a famous actress/singer.

Her favourite type of transport is Plane because she likes flying but also Bicycle because she finds it peaceful.

Overall, the target audience I would like to view my film would be teenagers. I tried to make my film opening sequence relate to teenagers by having teenage actors. I also thought of where teenagers would hang out and have a fun time so I thought a park would be a good setting to shoot my film opening.

Q3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

"Unwanted" is a low budget UK film that we hope will send chills to the audience. I think that "Paramount Pictures" would be a good distributor to get our film recognised. Link to Paramount site.

"Paramount Pictures" are a recognisable and good company that have distributed successful films such as; "The Fighter", "Paranormal Activity 2" and "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never". As you can see, "Paramount" distributes all different types of film genre from Dramas, Horrors even Documentary's. This shows that they can distribute any type of film. My film is a horror film and I think "Paramount" would be good to distribute it because they've distributed "Paranormal Activity" which was a low budget film but turned out to be quite successful.

When "Paramount Pictures" distributes my film, I would like it to be shown in cinemas like; CineWorld, Odeon, Vue, IMAX and Picture House because these are the cinemas that I feel, a lot of people go to.

Q2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Ruksana is that type of teenager who's pretty reckless. She likes to go on adventures which some teenagers like to do. I have chosen to compare Ruksana with a character from "The Chronicles Of Narnia" called Edmund. Edmund is like Ruksana because they're devious yet adventurous at the same time. However Edmund is a bit more wise than Ruksana's character and doesn't go and get himself in stupid situations then killed. Ruksana's character and Edmund both are head strong characters and characters who like to be in control and take charge.

Q1: In what ways does my media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Above are 9 frames of my film "Unwanted" in which I'm going to evaluate the conventions of media in each frame. Frame 1 shows the first shot of our film which is a panning shot of the playground. We decided to add a panning shot in our film because we wanted the audience to actually get a good look of our location. We decided to have it set in a children's playground because people wouldn't think that a children's playground would be a place where bad things would happen. Playgrounds are often used in horror films so this so this is a convention. The second frame introduces our first character, Isabelle. Isabelle is also the main character of our film and that is why we decided to have her name appear before our other character. We added a red tint to the shot to show time passing. We also added a ghosting affect to show that the characters were under the influence. Horror films often use ghosting effects so this is a convention. Frame 3 introduces Ruksana, our other character in our film. We decided to put Ruksana after Isabelle because of the fact that she dies first in our film. The same effects have been used in this frame that have been used in frame 2. Frame 4 shows an over the shoulder shot of the characters walking from the playground, into the forest. Because Isabelle is quite far from Ruksana, this indicates that she doesn't want to go further in the forest. As you can see, its going much darker outside and Isabelle has a feeling something bad is going to happen. Over the shoulder shots are often used in horror films. This is also a convention. Frame 5 shows Ruksana walking by herself, seeing that Isabelle has left her. The shot is trying to show someone walking behind her making loud noises and causing her to turn around. We leave the shot with her screaming. This is also a convention in horror films. We then turn to frame 6 which is an over the shoulder shot of Isabelle hearing Ruksana scream causing her to dramatically look back. This shot is used in many different horror films so it is a convention. Frame 7 shows the title of our film "Unwanted" which appears at the end of the opening sequence. The title takes up most of the shot and is larger than all other credits. We decided to to this because in horror films, the titles always appear larger than the credits to show the importance of the film. Horror films also have their title after the opening sequence. This is a convention. Frame 8 is a shot of Ruksana running  and looking back after she heard something behind her. This is a convention in horror films. Frame 9 shows Ruksana going through the forest. We did this as a close up to show the scared expression on her face. Many horror films also have close up shots of the characters faces to try and get the viewer to feel something for that character, this is a convention.

Feedback On Opening Scene.

We showed a rough cut of the opening of our film and got feedback from the class. Most class feedback was positive. However the class didn't understand the beginning of our film, why it was a different colour and blurry. We did this to show that, that part of the film was a flashback, we just didn't have enough time to fully finish editing it so it would become more clearer. When we get back to editing, we'll be sure to show that this part of the film was a flashback.
